Thesis Project

Better Bites

  • There is growing awareness and conversation on the topic of food addiction and how harmful it can be to consume processed foods in America. Better Bites aims to participate in this conversation, create more awareness, and offer a solution for one of the main demographics affected by this: parents and their children. Better Bites is a tool and educational resource created to help parents become aware of the dangers of the food industry and guide them to make healthier decisions with their family’s diet. I wanted to create this as I have seen how unhealthy diets can have a negative effect on many different areas of my life. Creating a tool that can help people was both exciting and fulfilling for me. The main focus of my work is the website. This website provides information on food addiction and the dangers of highly processed foods. Its main purpose, though, is to help parents create healthier shopping lists using the “your list” feature. This feature can show how addictive your food is, the harmful additives in it, and give you healthier options to swap them out with. Social media creates both awareness for the website and the problem as a whole. Both of these pieces work together to help solve the issue of food addiction in America.

Key Takeaways

One of the main takeaways from this project was learning how to translate a strictly digital concept into a physical exhibition space. I explored how to present digital work and clearly communicate the ideas behind the project. Most importantly, this project helped me learn how to identify a real social issue and develop a design solution that aims to educate people and create positive change.
